Considering Cats
Cats can make excellent pets for the right person. While kittens are adorably cute, cats develop very specific personalities and some people find the thrill of a kitten the only reason to own a cat. Before you consider taking in a cat as a pet, consider whether you are simply entranced with the kitten or if you are willing to make the lifelong commitment to a cat. Cats can live for up to 20 years, which is a very long time to commit to anything. There is a growing trend among young people who find the kittens absolutely adorable. They bring the kittens home for their first pet only to realize that they are not so thrilled with the idea of actually owning full grown cats. The cats become displaced for another kitten and the cycle continues. This really isn’t very fair or kind to the cats.Cats do not respond like dogs do. They outgrow their playfulness within the first few years, responding only to their favorite toys during their most perfectly playful moments. A dog will respond to you playfully for many years to come. However, the little kittens that are so cute are also so incredibly fast to turn into full grown cats. There are not enough homes for cats as it stands right now. Before you delve into the land of pet ownership, consider the possibility that you might not be in the position to offer a cat a 20 year home. It is better to be honest now and think your decision through with the same clarity that you would consider bringing home a dog.
